French Heritage

FRN 476 – 3 credits, 3 hours

Location: Paris and Nice, France

Tentative Dates: June 1 – June 23, 2024

Course Description: BMCC’s Study Abroad Program in France is for intermediate and advanced level French students. Taught in Lyon and Paris, the course will further develop student’s four language acquisition skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in French. Students will also do work on selected contemporary themes related to French society and institutions (i.e. the press in France, cinema, food, etc). Students will enhance their knowledge of French and Francophone language and culture through class meetings, seminars and an experiential component, which includes visits to sites of historic and cultural importance, such as Versailles and museums.

Prerequisite: FRN 106 or above, or proficiency in FRN 106 as determined by the Modern Languages Department placement test plus at least three credits in a foreign language taught at CUNY; see additional eligibility requirements.

Housing and Meals: In Paris, students will have a single room in a homestay with a local family. Breakfast and Dinner will be provided by host family (except weekends). In Nice, students will have a single room in a homestay with a local family. Breakfast will be provided by host family (except weekends). Students will receive stipends for other meals. 

Program Fee: $1,725

BMCC students accepted to the program pay $1,725 which includes the Association BMCC Study Abroad Scholarship. The fee covers international airfare, housing, meals, local program-related transportation, excursions, health insurance and any emergency costs related to COVID-19. Students may apply to other scholarships to help cover the program fee. Non-BMCC Students pay $4,445 for the program fee. Non-BMCC students are not eligible to receive the Association BMCC study abroad scholarship.

Additional Program Costs: BMCC tuition and fees for 3 credits, as well as out-of-pocket costs for personal expenses, visa (if needed), tips, and out-of-pocket meals.  Optional side trips to local tourist attractions may also incur additional costs. These costs are not included in the program fee. Students must pay BMCC tuition separately. Pell may be applied depending on eligibility. Program application deadline: February 1st

Students must make a $250 deposit by February 1st.
