More Than 50 Out in Two Scholars Inducted Into Cohort Program Known for Academic Excellence and Community Service

On Wednesday, April 10, the Spring 2024 Out in Two Award Ceremony took place in Richard Harris Terrace.

Out in Two scholar at April 2024 ceremonySpeakers included Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Erwin Wong; Vice President for Student Affairs Marva Craig and Vice President of Enrollment Management Sanjay Ramdath.

Alumni remarks were delivered via pre-recorded video by Niv Yoself, a former Out in Two scholar who is currently out of the country and who graduated from BMCC with an Associate in Science degree in Financial Management in 2023. Senior Academic Advisor and Coordinator of the Out in Two program Maria Ramirez pulled the event together.

The Out in Two Scholarship program at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) is unique to BMCC.

Out in Two scholar at April 2024 ceremonySince its inception in 1999 by former BMCC President Antonio Pérez, 90 percent of BMCC’s Out in Two scholars have transferred to prestigious institutions such as Columbia University, NYU and Cornell University. Many have transferred to CUNY colleges including Baruch, Hunter and others.

Out in Two scholars are awarded $1,600 per semester for their remaining three semesters, and commit to graduating from BMCC within two years from their first semester.

To be eligible for the program, the scholars must meet requirements such as having completed at least 12 credits in their first semester and having maintained a GPA of at least 3.0.

They are also expected to participate in community service, which could include volunteering with any of BMCC’s community partners including City Harvest, New York Cares and many more.
