The Business-Urban Male Leadership Academy (B-UMLA) program is designed to support the success of BMCC’s promising business students.
B-UMLA provides students with a tailored support network, including but not limited to faculty and peer mentors, career development workshops, internship and apprenticeship opportunities, assistance with transfer applications to senior colleges/universities, tutoring and much more.
In collaboration with the Urban Male Leadership Academy and the Business Management department, B-UMLA seeks to close the gap between first-generation students as they navigate the pursuit of their Business-Orientated degree. Utilizing UMLA’s proven best practices within the Business Department’s academic setting, students can exercise the skillsets needed to excel in business by fostering long-lasting relationships with peers, staff, alumni and external entities.
The B-UMLA program also includes a comprehensive BMCC-to-Senior College pipeline in collaboration with the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch and the BMCC-Baruch Business Academy for students who meet the program requirements.
B-UMLA consists of five key components:
- Mentoring and community
- Coaching and academic support
- Faculty mentorship and connections
- Career connections, exploration workshops, and experiences
- The BMCC-Baruch Business Academy (for freshman Business Administration majors)
