Field Experience in Italy

Program Description: Taught in English, this course is designed to introduce students to the geography, history and politics of Italy. Social and economic issues of Italy will be explored, with emphasis on Italy’s pre-Roman and modern-day history. Orientation, seminars with guest lecturers, field trips to sites of historic interest, and cultural tours are an integral part of the travel program. The field experience base of operations is Sant’ Anna Institute in Italy. In addition to the Field Experience course, student participants will take an Italian language course and be eligible to earn an additional 3 credits. Language level will be determined via a brief oral/written test offered by the Sant’ Anna Institute.
Housing & Meals: Students will have shared rooms in apartments. Stipends will be provided for students to purchase food and prepare meals in the apartment.
Program Fee: $2,210 Program Fee (includes flight, housing, meals, excursions onsite, local transportation and international health insurance; those who do not receive BMCC Association Scholarship will pay $5,523 (see below))
Tuition and Fees: 3 credits (financial aid may be applied)
Additional Costs: Passport, visa (if needed), tips, out-of-pocket meals, etc. Optional side trips to local tourist attractions may also incur additional costs.
Scholarships:
- BMCC Association Scholarship automatically given to BMCC students who have completed at least 12 credits at BMCC
- Fund for Education Abroad: open to U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents
- Gilman Scholarship: open to U.S. citizens who are Pell Grant recipients
