Manhattan Educational Opportunity Center (Manhattan EOC) offers a wide array of free programs that serves the community at CUNY in The Heights (CITH) each semester.

The programs offered at CUNY in the Heights by the Manhattan EOC are listed below:


English for Speakers of Other Languages

Students learn English the way they learned their first language by doing everyday things like expressing feelings, asking for directions and playing games. This approach creates a low-anxiety environment where students are able to draw on their own life experiences.

  • Summer session classes for ESOL: July 3 — August 11
  • Fall classes for ESOL: September 11 — December 19

Security Officer Training

Students prepare for careers as State Licensed Security Guards. Students complete the 8-hour pre-assignment training and 16-hour job training. Preparation for the NYC Fire Department Certificate of Fitness as a Fire Guard is provided. Prerequisites include online learning modules in preparation for certification.


OSHA

Students learn the fundamentals of promoting workplace safety and health as well as preventing workplace hazards and their rights. Topics include communicating OSHA laws, understanding chemical and electrical hazards and overall health and safety in the workplace. Upon completion of the program, students receive the General Industry or Construction Card as appropriate. This program provides 40 hours of instruction including the OSHA 30-hour and the OSHA 10-hour Site Safety Training (SST).
