Accessibility Support Programs

For students registered with the Office of Accessibility, there are a few programs that offer enriched support.  Program descriptions are listed below.

ASSIST (Accessibility Student Support in School and Transition)

ASSIST Mentoring is a partnership between the Office of Accessibility and the IMPACT Peer Mentoring Program.

The program runs per-semester and provides students with the opportunity to meet weekly with mentors, attend workshops, and make friendships and connections.

College 2 Careers Program

College 2 Careers is a comprehensive year-long engagement with a voluntary cohort of CTE (Career and Technical Education) students with disabilities enrolled at BMCC. Services provided include:  academic coaching, career coaching, soft skills training, and peer-to-peer mentoring.  Students eligible to participate are registered with the BMCC Office of Accessibility and have declared a CTE major. To participate, students must sign a C2C Participant Agreement each semester and earn a total of 100 participation points per semester to earn BMCC co-curricular transcript credit.

Project REACH (Resources and Education on Autism)

The Project REACH at BMCC provides supportive services for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) towards their academic success and increase awareness on Autism and neurodiversity to BMCC faculty and the general community.

Project REACH participants commit to a year-long sequence of activities that is aimed to increase students with ASD’s engagement with the BMCC community.

Program benefits include:

  • Being part of a supportive community of autistic students
  • Weekly group-check-ins to discuss student-centered issues, executive functioning supports, self-advocacy skills and other tools for success at BMCC.
  • Monthly group workshops
  • Comprehensive mid-semester feedback on academic performance through Progress Survey reports from professors.
  • Community to resources and supports at BMCC and CUNY-wide to enhance the college experience.

Students eligible to participate are registered with the Office of Accessibility with a formal diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and are committed to participating in activities for the academic year.

CUNY Unlimited

CUNY Unlimited is a credential program that expands access to the college experience for students with intellectual disabilities. AHRC NYC’s partnership at BMCC is also part of the CUNY Unlimited credential program.  Students prepare for next steps, including employment, through participation in academic courses, campus life, work experiences, and an independent living and self-advocacy curriculum.  Upon program completion, eligible students earn a CUNY Unlimited Credential in Academic and Career Studies.
