Who is eligible for a Federal Direct Subsidized Loan?

You must meet the all the eligibility requirements for federal financial aid as described in the PELL Frequently Asked Questions.

In addition, you must register for, and maintain enrollment in, at least 6 credits each semester in order to qualify for a Federal Direct Loan. If you fall below 6 credits before your loan is disbursed, you will not be able to receive the funds.

You cannot include non-ESL remedial courses in your eligible enrollment if you have exceeded the 30 credit hour limit on payment for remedial courses.

You must also demonstrate financial need for the loan. Financial need is demonstrated when your expected family contribution, plus the loan amount, plus any other financial aid you are receiving adds up to less than your cost of attendance. If you have questions about what it means to demonstrate financial need, please review the section of Financial Aid 101 on how your eligibility is determined.
