Applying for Accommodations

The Office of Accessibility is the official space at BMCC for matriculated and nondegree students to self-disclose as having a qualifying disability and to have their eligibility for accommodations determined.

To request accommodations for the first time at BMCC, please follow the Office of Accessibility registration process below:

  1. Log in to the CUNY Accommodate Portal Follow the steps for a New Confidential Student Request at this link: Confidential Accommodation Request
  2. Submit Supporting Documentation

To access  further guidance on supporting documentation please visit: https://www.bmcc.cuny.edu/student-affairs/accessibility/cuny-documentation-guidelines/

3. Meeting with an Accessibility Specialist. After the Application for Accommodations and Services has been submitted and received, it is reviewed by the Office of Accessibility team.

4. After a team review, an Accessibility Specialist will contact the student to set up an intake meeting (virtual or in-person). During the intake meeting, the Accessibility Specialist will review and gather more information about the students’ disability-related barriers, past accommodations, and accommodation requests. Information about the unique features of a course, program, or requirement is also discussed.

Please note that specialists may at times request a Verification of Diagnosis form to provide additional information to support your accommodation request. If this is the case, your assigned specialist will inform you and provide you with the Verification of Diagnosis form. The processing of accommodation requests takes approximately 1-2 weeks. To avoid delay in the processing of your application, please respond promptly to outreach attempts by our office.
