Wellness Events

UMLA Wellness events offer mental health support through counseling and stress management tools to help people of color stay balanced and focused. They create opportunities for UMLA students to connect with peers and form supportive relationships.

Some previous events include:

  • Community Circle: Navigating Black and Brown Voices: We presented the conversation of the importance of Third spaces and how we provide each other tools and empower those to find / those in their higher education journey
  • NYC Men Teach Day: Black Boys Film Screening and Discussion: Black Boys illuminates the spectrum of Black male humanity in America. An intimate, inter-generational exploration, Black Boys strives for insight to black identity and opportunity at the nexus of sports, education and criminal justice.
  • What’s Your Love Language? Navigating Your Seasonal Love Language: Discover tools for nurturing relationships, naming your emotional needs, and leaning into the energy of renewal and connection.

BISI (BMCC Intramural Sports Initiative)

BISI (BMCC Intramural Sports Initiative) is a program that offers students a unique combination of athletic activities, mentorship, academic coaching, career guidance, and academic support. The program provides students with a professional and peer mentor and offers them support throughout their Academic and career journey. Additionally, academic coaching and tutoring are available to enhance their performance. BISI participants can also attend special workshops, events, and career opportunities and participate in a competitive structured basketball league.

Barbershop Talks

Barbershop Talk is an event series that brings together students, staff, and faculty members to receive free haircuts while engaging in meaningful discussions. It offers an excellent opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and discuss various topics, such as social justice, sports, life goals, movies, and more.
