BMCC Healthcare Programs

Community Health Education is an exciting and growing profession that can lead to jobs all over the world in public health agencies, voluntary nonprofit organizations, schools, colleges, universities, medical care settings, business, industries and more.

Upon successful completion of the program, students are granted an Associate in Science (A.S.) degree and are able to transfer seamlessly into programs offered at Lehman College and York College.

The Gerontology Program introduces students to career fields in aging; prepares students to enter the workforce to care for, treat and serve an increasingly needy aging population; and prepares students for transfer to senior colleges in academically rigorous disciplines such as gerontology, community health, public health, geriatric care management and health services administration.

Students completing the A.S. degree in Gerontology can transfer seamlessly into the bachelor’s degree program at York College/CUNY without loss of credits.

The Health Information Technology Program equips students with the competencies to use computerized health information systems that collect data for analyzation, interpretation and dissemination to physicians, patients, public/private agencies, and the public.

Upon successful completion of the program requirements, students receive the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree and are eligible for the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) and Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification examinations offered by the Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM).

The Nursing Programs prepares students to become competent members of the healthcare team, qualified to render effective nursing care in health service agencies, hospitals, and community and long-term care facilities. The nursing program is a combination of classroom theory and practice of clinical skills in selected healthcare facilities and in the College nursing skills and simulator laboratories. Graduates are well prepared to be collaborative health care participants responsible for facilitating maintenance of health, improvement of health status, prevention of illness and alleviation of suffering.

Upon successful completion of 65 credits, the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree is granted and students are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurse (NLCEX-RN)

The Paramedic Program provides the knowledge and skills necessary for graduates to function in advanced pre-hospital care. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the New York City Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) Certification Examination, the National Registry of EMT/ Paramedics Certification Examination, Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.

This Public Health Program aims to professionally prepare students for careers in public health and transfer to senior college programs. This program fully articulates with the Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health with the Community Health concentration at York College.

The Respiratory Therapy program provides students with the necessary skills and experience to become competent respiratory therapists. Students receive specialized training in the clinical care of patients with cardio-respiratory problems. Upon completing all requirements students receive the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree and are eligible to take the Certification and Registry Examinations given by the National Board for Respiratory Care, Inc.

The School Health Education program provides students with sound knowledge and practical skills. It also prepares students to continue in a teacher education program at a senior college in order to become certified in School Health Education (Pre-K to 12th Grade). BMCC has an articulation agreement that allows students in the School Health Education Program to transfer seamlessly to York College’s School Health Education Bachelor in Science (B.S.) Degree Program.

The Science for Health program prepares students to transfer to bachelor’s degree programs leading to careers in practitioner professions, working as dieticians, nutritionists and exercise practitioners, or for baccalaureate or accelerated nursing programs.

The Health Informatics Certificate Program equips students with the competencies to use manual or computerized health information systems that collect data for analyzation, interpretation and dissemination to physicians, patients, public/private agencies, and other health care facilities. Upon successful completion of the program requirements, students receive a certificate in Health Informatics.

BMCC offers a certificate program to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to fulfill an immediate need in the healthcare workforce and it will also serve as a pathway to other medical careers. The program will provide students with the knowledge, practical skills, and experience to become a valuable member as an LPN contributing to quality healthcare. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the National Council of Licensure Exams for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN).
