Every financial aid program has its own final deadline for filing an application or submitting the results to the Financial Aid Office. If you haven’t completed the financial aid process before the semester begins, you must not delay any longer as your time to do so is limited. Financial aid is supposed to be in place before you need it!
Federal Award Programs — with few exceptions, issues with your FAFSA must be resolved by your last day of attendance in any award period (usually the semester). If your FAFSA is still in a rejected status after your last day of enrollment in any award year, you will forfeit your eligibility to receive federal financial aid for that year.
Federal Work-Study or FSEOG — these programs have limited funding and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Awards continue to be made until funds are exhausted. If you are not awarded FWS or FSEOG, you can submit an appeal to the Financial Aid Office for late consideration.
Federal Direct Loan Requests — must be received by the Office of Financial Aid no later than three weeks before the end of the fall or spring terms. Loans cannot be processed retroactively for semesters that have already ended.
New York State TAP — issues with your NYS TAP application must be resolved by June 30 of the award year. If you are able to resolve your TAP issues before this date, you could still qualify for a late TAP award, even if the semester you applied for has ended.
Aid for Part-Time Study (APTS) — a CUNY Supplement must be on file before the end of the third week of your first semester of attendance within the award year.
Allow at least 4-6 weeks processing time for your financial aid application(s). The college will credit financial aid awards toward your tuition charges only if your applications have been processed and your financial aid awards have been authorized.
The deadlines posted above are meant to give you enough time to have your applications processed and any problems with your application information corrected well before the start of classes.
Often, the Financial Aid Office must request additional information or documents to complete the processing of your application. Please respond promptly to any requests for additional information. Most delays in processing result from delayed responses. It can take 3 weeks or longer to process you for an award AFTER you submit additional information.
