Women’s Herstory Month: Intergenerational Dialogues for Sustainable Change

Women's Herstory Month 2025

This event brings together academics, legal experts, activists, students, policymakers and grassroots organizations for an intergenerational dialogue on trailblazing leadership and strengthening young women’s activism. It highlights key milestones in women’s rights, leadership, and legal reforms, with a focus on African perspectives. Discussions will identify legal, cultural, and societal barriers—especially at the intersections of race, class, technology, and disability—while culminating in a unified call to action to guide future advocacy and empowerment efforts.

12 – 12:15 p.m. | Registration and Welcome Reception: Networking and Event introduction.

12:15  – 12:30 p.m. | Opening Remarks and Keynote Address: Setting the stage for discussions on women’s rights.

12:30 – 1:30 p.m. | Plenary Panel Discussion: “Inter-generational Dialogue for Sustainable Change”

– Dynamic conversation between young activists and seasoned leaders in women’s rights, bridging past and future efforts.

1:30  – 2:15 p.m. | A Walk Down Memory Lane: “Where Are We Now?”

– Key milestones in women’s rights, legal reforms, and gender equality.

– Challenges: Examining barriers that hinder women’s empowerment across the globe.

– Connection to SDGs: Discussing how the Beijing Platform intersects with sustainable development goals.

2:20 – 2:45 p.m.: Interactive Discussions on Innovations for Empowerment

2:45 – 3:15 p.m. | Collaborative Action Forum: “Integrating Women’s Empowerment Activities”.

– Small group discussions on “Pathways to 2030” to identify priority recommendations for integrating women’s empowerment activities.

– Groups will formulate actionable steps and commit to championing them over the next year.

3:15 – 3:30 p.m. | Thank You and Next Steps: Information on how to stay engaged as trailblazers!

3:30 – 3:45 p.m. | Closing Session and Call to Action

– Summary of Key Insights: Recap of major takeaways and innovative ideas.

– Joint Declaration: Presentation of a short statement synthesizing the day’s discussions and recommendations.

3:45 – 4 p.m. | Networking Reception: Closing Networking Opportunities.
