The BMCC Annual Research Symposium (BARS) showcases the work of students who have completed research throughout the academic year. Students have the opportunity to present their work through oral, virtual and poster presentations to the BMCC community.

BARS 2024

Congratulations to the winners in BARS 2024!! We are all very proud of all the hard work and effort you’ve put into your projects and presentations.

Each project will receive funds to attend a national conference. Special thanks to the BMCC Foundation for sponsoring!

  • 1st place – $2,000: Mia Pinto, Mentored by Prof. Henry Bulley – How does Your Neighborhood Socioeconomic Status Influence Your Flood Vulnerability? GIS-Based Assessment of Flood Mitigation In Brooklyn
  • 2nd place – $1,500: Zarnab Alam, Stephanie Eichman, Mavluda Naimova; Mentored by Prof. Christine Priano – Investigating The Antibacterial Potential Of Maqui Berry, Aristotelia chilensis, On Gram-Negative And Gram-Positive Bacteria
  • 3rd place – $1,000: Asmaa Ait Hammou; Mentored by Prof. Younes Benkarroum – AI-Based Implementation and Comparison of Facial Detection and Recognition Algorithms

Call for Abstracts

  • The BMCC Annual Research Symposium (BARS) Abstract Submission application  will be announced on this  page in the near future–check back for more details.
  • We encourage all faculty to invite their students to participate in the oral, virtual and poster presentations conducted at the conference.
  • Abstracts must be edited, reviewed and approved by faculty mentors before submission. Presenters and mentors will receive confirmation of receipt emails once submissions are reviewed.

Poster Submissions

All posters must be reviewed and approved by your faculty mentor prior to submission. Confirmation of receipt emails will be sent to the mentor and presenter(s). Posters that do not meet the requirements below will be sent back for formatting.

Poster Requirements:

  • 48 inches x 36 inches
  • PDF Format
  • Must include the BMCC logo*
  • Must include your research program logo*
  • Must include presenter(s) and mentor’s name
  • Cannot be text heavy
