The New York City community is invited to enjoy “A Children’s Garden of Music,” free concerts at the Jefferson Market Garden, located on Greenwich Avenue (between Sixth Avenue and West 10th Street).
The performances are scheduled for 1 p.m. on June 7 and June 14.
“A Children’s Garden of Music,” has been made possible through the generosity of BMCC’s Music Department, under the direction of Professor Howard Meltzer. Support for the program is also provided by the Office of Civic Engagement at New York University.
The Jefferson Market Garden, located in the heart of Greenwich Village, is sustained by volunteer efforts and the support of neighbors and friends whose contributions enable the garden to flourish.
Concert Program (June 7)
The BMCC Brass Quintet will perform Gwyneth Walker’s “The Race,” a retelling of Aesop’s “The Hare and the Tortoise,” and Luther Henderson’s “Tuba Tiger Rag,” along with other favorites. The brass quintet features: Felicia Harrelson (narrator), Jose Montenegro (trumpet), Clyde Daley (trumpet), Howard Meltzer (horn), George Zorko (trombone), and Dale Turk (tuba).
Concert Program (June 14)
The BMCC Woodwind Quintet will perform Gary Friedman’s “The Pied Piper of Hamelin,” from the poem by Robert Browning and Sergei Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet,” arranged by Joachim Linckelmann and other favorites. The woodwind quintet features: Diane Dowling (narrator), Fancis Brouder (flute), Jim Ferraiuolo (oboe), Yi Chuan (clarinet), Nisreen Nor, (bassoon), and Howard Meltzer (horn).
