BEGINNING DECEMBER 8, THE RAMP FROM CHAMBERS STREET TO THE FRONT DOOR OF THE COLLEGE WILL BE CLOSED.
November 26, 2003
Construction work will commence on a new ramp whose grade will be less steep and easier for people in wheelchairs to use. It will comply with regulations in the Americans with Disabilities Act.
For the next four or five months, you will not be able to enter the college from Chambers Street. During this time, the college will temporarily use these entrances and exits.
North Moore Street (near the gym, 2nd floor north). Enter and exit via the outside stairway next to the gym on 2 north. Note: the subway stops closest to the North Moore Street entrance are Franklin Street for the 1 train, and Canal Street for the A, C, E.
Harrison Street (near the vending machines, 2nd floor south). Enter and exit via the outside stairway near the vending machines and Student Government Association offices on 2 south.
Note: The first floor entrance on Harrison Street remains the college’s only handicapped-accessible entrance until the ramp project is completed. Please remember that elevators are reserved for handicapped people.
Greenwich Street (through Washington Market Park). Enter Washington Market Park from Greenwich Street and walk up the stairs to the front of the college. The park entrance is near the Independence Plaza North complex and the grocery store. BMCC security guards will be near the entrances on Greenwich Street and at the top of the stairs at night.
