Faculty Development Grant/Stipend

2025-2026 “Stipend” Cycle (Due date: May 10, 2025)

The Faculty Development Award was initially established in the 1990s at the initiative of the Faculty Development Committee of the BMCC Academic Senate. Its purpose is to support full-time faculty members in their scholarly and creative activities. Since 2023, the award has been designated as a stipend. Please note that this means that the fund is awarded as a taxable stipend. The Faculty Development Committee organizes the “Request for Proposals”; while the disbursement stipend is handled by the Office of Academic Affairs and overseen by the Dean of Faculty. Full-time faculty throughout the college are encouraged to apply, and faculty may apply only as individuals.

The 2025-2026 applications

  • The total amount available for Faculty Development Awards is $60,000, which will cover selected projects up to $3,500* (Please note the amount may differ after taxes are deducted as this is a taxable stipend).
  • Full-time tenured or tenure track faculty may request fees not limited to attending virtual/remote and in-person conferences, publications, materials, and supplies.
Note that these payments are given as a taxable stipend, so please plan accordingly.
  • No reassigned time or summer salary allowed for the 2025-2026 cycle
  • All Faculty who do not meet the eligibility requirements for submitting proposals, including submitting an anonymous proposal, will not be considered.
  • Recipients will be required to submit a one-page report after the end of the grant period with the outcomes and results of their project to the official designate of Academic Affairs. Failure to submit this report will affect eligibility for future applications. This report will be posted on the Academic Senate website.

Please direct any questions regarding the “Request for Proposals” to the Faculty Development Committee (facultydevelopmentcommittee@bmcc.cuny.edu). For all other questions, including disbursement of Stipends, contact the Dean of Faculty (gafernandez@bmcc.cuny.edu).
