President’s Message

Anthony E. MunroeDear BMCC Community,

Borough of Manhattan Community College continues to prove itself as a leader in offering effective programs that advance our students’ educational and life success, in cultivating the innovation of faculty research, and in creating a culture of care that embraces equity, inclusion and diversity.

Our collective work has garnered recognition from The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program, which named BMCC as a top 10 finalists for the 2021 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence – the nation’s signature recognition among community colleges. We were also recently honored to receive a $30-million gift from philanthropist, author and activist MacKenzie Scott, who recognized our institution’s mission, student outcomes, and on-going efforts to advance socioeconomic mobility for our students, particularly among Black and Brown students.

The College’s many accomplishments could not have been achieved without your time, hard work, and dedication to our students. Through your commitment, we empower our students to build a brighter future. That is why I am proud to share with you BMCC’s Strategic Plan 2020-2025 – Designing for Success: Taking What Works to Scale, which over the next five years will move us towards achieving our mission and realizing vision.

Unlike previous strategic plans, Designing for Success is an enhanced and interactive web-based strategic plan that allows the college community, our supporters, and other key stakeholders to obtain easier access and understanding of our priorities, goals, actions, and Key Performance Indicators. This plan is the cornerstone of all of our assessment and planning activities and the site will ensure it is a living document – one that provides updates, dashboards, and opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to share their stories.

Input from more than 1,000 members of the BMCC community in the Designing for Success initiative was foundational to developing our strategic plan. Continued input will be foundational to its successful implementation. It’s with deep gratitude that I thank all our administrators, faculty, staff, and students who were involved in this important work.

Our strategic plan will serve as a reminder of our institution’s successes and a guide to developing a culture of continuous planning and evidence-based decision making that will help us scale up what works.

I look forward to many discussions and developments as we step into a new chapter for BMCC, where students “Start Here” and “Go Anywhere.”

Sincerely,

Anthony E. Munroe
President, Borough of Manhattan Community College
