The BMCC Learning Academy offers you personal and professional development seminars based on your entry point into our program. Students pick a different topic area each semester.
This seminar helps students take concrete steps toward internships and careers; students will produce a resume, build a LinkedIn profile, and visit professional sites.
Design Your Own Success
This seminar is designed for incoming, first-semester freshmen. It introduces students to BMCC technology and campus resources, as well as study skills and time management strategies for new students.
This seminar is for students who are interested in and committed to developing the invaluable skill of professional writing, specifically cover letters, transfer application statements, and scholarship essays.
This seminar empowers students interested in social justice issues; students will explore personal identities and the issues that affect them; research causes, key players, and context; and create plans of action.
This seminar provides students with a weekly opportunity to be thoughtful and strategic about their study habits. Each session dedicates time to three key elements of an effective study life: your ability to focus; exposure to and actual practice of new study strategies; and attention to time management.
In this seminar, students will explore transfer college options virtually and in person, map out long-term academic possibilities at the degree and course level, and cultivate their research and self-advocacy skills. Students will also have support from BLA advisors as they undertake more daunting elements of the transfer application process, like essay writing and finding scholarships.
This seminar focuses on the various platforms used in higher education. Students will be given the opportunity to explore multiple platforms to become more comfortable with this form of technology. Students will also explore educational applications and have the chance to review and evaluate their purpose and functionality. Discussion on our use and interaction with technology will be a focal point of this course.
