The BMCC Learning Academy Seminars

Students in the BLA Health Professions Community are enrolled in a different success seminar each semester. Seminars are designed specifically for students in health professions careers.

Study Smart

This seminar provides students with a weekly opportunity to be thoughtful and strategic about their study habits. Each session dedicates time to three key elements of an effective study life: your ability to focus; exposure to and actual practice of new study strategies; and attention to time management.

Career Mapping

This seminar helps you take the foundational steps in your career path. We will explore career assessment tools as well as the majors and jobs related to your career of interest. In addition to learning how to better navigate job search sites, you will learn to unpack postings for positions, job descriptions, and required qualifications. Students will also participate, analyze, and practice the process of developing and writing quality resumes and cover letters.

Health Professions Skill Building

This seminar is designed for third-semester students in health-related majors. The seminar focuses on three fundamental skills you will use no matter what career path you are on in the health professions: collaboration, communication, and comfort with data.

Health Professions Lab

This seminar is designed for fourth-semester students in health-related majors. The seminar focuses on three objectives that are specific to where you are in your health careers pathway: peer collaboration, high stakes test taking preparation, and the transfer process.

Graduate Advantage Program

The Graduate Advantage Program (GAP) is designed for students who will graduate from BMCC by the end of the semester. Students will prepare to thrive after graduation and transfer by defining and practicing transfer survival strategies, like active research, self-advocacy, help-seeking, and connecting to campus.
