BMCC has partnered with the College of State Island (CSI) and St. George’s University (SGU) School of Medicine in Grenada to create a pathway for students who would like to pursue the study of medicine and attain an MD degree.

In the BMCC/CSI/SGU pathway program, students will begin their studies at BMCC. After completing two years of undergraduate study and earning an associate degree, students will continue at the College of Staten Island.

After completing the baccalaureate degree at the College of Staten Island, qualified students will proceed to Grenada and enter the first year of St. George’s School of Medicine.

Admissions Process

Students may apply to this pathway at the time they apply to the College of Staten Island (CSI) or while a matriculated student at CSI.

Upon receipt of applications, the College of Staten Island and St. George’s University will work together to select suitable candidates, who meet the standards of CSI and SGU, and formal interviews will be conducted by St. George’s University.

In order to be eligible to proceed to the SGU School of Medicine in this program, students must:

  • maintain a cumulative and School of Medicine prerequisite coursework grade point average (GPA) competitive with the incoming class average of 3.4 and 3.2, respectively, while enrolled at CSI and
  • obtain a competitive score on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) within 5 points of the average MCAT score for entering students. The current average is approximately 498.

Students who are currently enrolled at BMCC in the A.S. degree prior to the execution of this agreement may also apply to the program and CSI/SGU will review for admittance.

For students who do not meet the admission requirements of the 2+2+4 Program, there may be opportunities for alternative programs/pathways for entrance into the MD Program.  Any such opportunities shall be discussed and agreed to by the parties.

Scholarships for the MD Program

Students that are accepted in the 2+2+4 Program will each receive a $10,000 scholarship from St. George’s University upon matriculation into the MD Program. Qualified graduates are eligible to be considered for all SGU scholarships such as the Chancellor’s Circle Legacy of Excellence currently valued at $120,000.

Students will be advised of the scholarship opportunity at the point of full admission to SGU and the scholarship will be indicated on the student’s SGU offer letter. Scholarships will only be formally awarded and disbursed once a student has successfully matriculated into the MD Program, and then the award will be disbursed evenly over the terms of the MD Program.
