Capital Projects

The Office of Administration and Planning is responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, repair and alteration of the BMCC’s physical plant and safety. Administration and Planning also serves as the college’s advocate at the City University of New York. Administration and Planning areas include: Administration for Campus Operations and Receiving; Buildings and Grounds; Sustainability; Environmental Health; Safety and Risk Management; and Campus Facilities Planning, Design and Construction.

Below is a list of BMCC’s current and future capital projects.

Cooling Towers at Main Campus

With the end of the 2021 Cooling Season, BMCC is excited to announce the immediate start of construction activities for the replacement of the Cooling Towers at Main Campus, a critical component of the building HVAC system. This Capital Improvement is anticipated to be completed prior to the start of the 2022 Cooling season, and like all Capital Improvement projects, will be managed by DASNY/CUNY in coordination with the BMCC Facilities team. A few important relevant facts to consider:

  • Construction activities will primarily occur on the main roof, which is where the equipment is located. We anticipate most disruptions to be minimal and coordinated, but understanding the nature of construction, you may experience loud levels of noise and vibration at times.
  • Construction activities will NOT impact our ability to continue to provide adequate building ventilation or heating during the entire construction phase.
  • There is an abatement process associated with this project that requires posting of notices informing the building occupants of this activity on all building entrance. This abatement process is regulated by various government agencies (DEP/DASNY) with the authority to enforce compliance with all safety protocols, ensuring the safety of all building occupants.
  • This critical improvement will ensure that CUNY and BMCC continue to move towards a more energy efficient future while increasing our operational efficiency and improving our ability to maintain a safe and comfortable building environment.
