Asian Heritage Month: Raman Fest: Noodles and Physics

April 2 at 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
| 199 Chambers St., Room S-714

Asian-Heritage-Month-2025

Complete the following:

Raman refers to:

  1. a type of noodle
  2. a famous person
  3. a city in Lebanon

Answer: If you guessed (2) you are correct.

Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman FRS was an Indian physicist known for his work in the field of light scattering. Using a spectrograph that he developed, he and his student K. S. Krishnan discovered that when light traverses a transparent material, the deflected light changes its wavelength and frequency. The BMCC Science Department has a WiTec alpha 300R Confocal Raman Microscope with three lasers. Biological, forensic and nano-technological applications are some of the many research opportunities available in Raman Spectroscopy here at BMCC. Come to the laboratory and see a demonstration of the versatility of Raman Spectroscopy.

Plus, refreshments including ramen noodles will be available.
