Mission Statement

The mission of the Health Studies Department is to provide evidence informed, accessible, and comprehensive health education to our diverse student body.  We are committed to fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment that values diversity and promotes respect for all individuals.

Through our coursework, we aim to prepare students for successful transfer and career achievement in a variety of health care disciplines, while promoting in-demand professional competencies, such as scientific inquiry, data analysis, research, community engagement, oral and written communication, computer literacy, and health advocacy.

We are guided by major national health objectives which include increasing healthy lifespan, addressing social determinants of health, empowering preventative health behaviors and reducing health disparities.  Our learners examine the foundations of both individual and population health with a focus toward professional degrees in Community Health, Public Health, Gerontology, and School Health Education.

As we endeavor to create a culture of health and wellness on campus, we encourage students to make informed decisions about their health behaviors, as well as to advocate for healthier more equitable communities.
