Makerspace

The BMCC Makerspace was built with collaboration in mind – professors and students from all departments are invited to use the space. Our goal is to foster a sense of community amongst “Makers” of all sorts. It is open to the entire BMCC community. It is  a place for bringing ideas to life – whether they be related to industrial design, art, engineering, fashion, robotics etc. – with the help of 21st century tools such as 3D printing and laser cutting.

BMCC students, faculty and staff can either reserve time in the Makerspace or stop by during drop-in hours. Check the schedule as there are times were classes have booked time and/or workshops are being given.

Here is a list of equipment currently available in the Makerspace:

• 3D Printing (2x Ultimakers, 1x Prusa MMU2S)
• Vinyl Cutter (1 x Cricut Maker, 1x Cameo Silhouette)
• Laser Cutter (Epilog Mini 60W, 12″ x 24″ bed)
• Physical Computing (Arduino, Rasberry Pi, breadboards, wire jumpers, an array of sensors, soldering irons)
• Programming: p5.js and processing is installed/accessible on our laptops and MacBooks
• Analog Tools (Screen printing screens, iron on press, sewing machine)
• Computing: 25 Macbooks (2022), 3 HP Laptops, 20 iPads with Apple pencils

Please be advised, these machines do not leave the Makerspace and are not available to borrow.

The Media Arts course Introduction to Digital Fabrication and Physical Computing was specifically designed to make use of the tools available in the Makerspace. Other courses use this space as well.
