Why the BMCC, Brooklyn College Collaboration?

In an interview, Erwin Wong, Dean of Academic Affairs, explained why BMCC @ Brooklyn College will have a positive impact on BMCC students.

Wong said, “As part of the integrated university we are collaborating with Brooklyn College to better serve our students. We realize that many of our students reside in Brooklyn and also that many of our students, when they complete their associate’s degree, transfer to Brooklyn College.”

BMCC has been studying student transfer data, Dean Wong added, and “the trend is evident that many of our students transfer to Brooklyn and do very well there. So we and Brooklyn College would like to assist those students in acclimating themselves to its campus.”

“If our students do transfer to Brooklyn College then this collaboration will be a means of making that transition a smooth one because our students will physically be on the Brooklyn campus and will be quite familiar with it. And when they do graduate from BMCC they will feel at home when they go to Brooklyn College.”

According to Wong, BMCC’s President, Antonio Pérez, suggested the BMCC @ Brooklyn College collaboration because it is similar to BMCC’s collaboration in Harlem and Washington Heights with other CUNY schools, which together are providing a more convenient venue for our students to take courses.

“In this collaboration with Brooklyn College” Dean Wong said, “Brooklyn has offered us access to classrooms and their library and many of its services, including faculty, who will participate in this initiative.”
