NYC Events for April 5-6, 2024

Whether you’re visiting NYC for the weekend, or have lived here for decades, it’s a common fact that there is always something fun and exciting occurring. Here is a list of some other wonderful events going on this weekend.

For the Literary Crowd:

  • Arriving in town a little early? If so, the Strand Bookstore is hosting “an in-person panel event with editors from The Atlantic for a discussion of their new editorial project The Great American Novels” on Wednesday, April 3 at 7 p.m.!
  • How lucky are we that our conference also is the same weekend as The Manhattan Rare Book & Fine Press Fair, happening on April 6 (at 869 Lexington Avenue)!
  • Don’t mind traversing a little outside of the city? If so, Joyce Carol Oates will be reading from Letters to a Biographer at Little City Books (100 Bloomfield Street Hoboken, NJ 07030) on April 6!

For the Historical Folks:

  • April 6 is the official Tartan Day, which commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320 (fun fact, this was used as a basis for the American Declaration of Independence!). Tartan Day is known for its parade: with bagpipe bands, Highland dancing and other Scottish-themed displays. The parade starts on 45th Street and moves up 6th Avenue to 55th Street.

For the Nature Enthusiasts:

  • Macy’s is once again hosting their annual flower show! “This year’s installment at the megachain’s Herald Square location will feature a ‘dreamscape of fluffy clouds and whimsical floral landscapes’ in partnership with Dior.” And even better news? It’s free to attend!

For the Music Lovers:

  • Calling all philharmonic (and Lincoln Center) fans! Alice Sara Ott will be performing at Lincoln Center from April 4-6! Grab tickets while you can!
  • While it might be hard to snag a ticket, Olivia Rodrigo is performing at Madison Square Garden on April 5!
  • Speaking of tickets, there are an incredible number of amazing Broadway show performances happening this weekend as well. Try TodayTix to find cheap day of tickets to shows!

For the Sports Fans:

  • If you haven’t been to the new Yankee Stadium yet, this weekend could be the perfect time to go! The New York Yankees are playing the Toronto Blue Jays and there will be a free gift for the first 40,000 visitors!
  • Basketball more your scene? Well, the Brooklyn Nets are versing the Detroit Pistons!
