Stephane KakouA United BMCC: Empowering Every Student

Dear Students of Borough of Manhattan Community College,

My name is Stephane Kakou, and I’m excited to announce my candidacy for President of the Student Government Association (SGA). As a Public and Nonprofit Administration major, multilingual student, and dedicated leader, I’m confident that I can unite our diverse student communities and create a more compassionate and supportive BMCC.

As a fellow student, I understand the challenges we face in balancing academics and personal life, finding resources, and feeling heard by the administration. That’s why I’m running for President – to be a voice for every student, ensuring that each of your concerns and needs is acknowledged and addressed.

Through my experiences as a student leader and club member, I’ve seen the impact that dedicated individuals can have on our campus. I propose establishing a Student Feedback Forum, where students can share concerns, ideas, and aspirations. This platform will ensure every student’s voice is heard and valued.

I’ll work closely with student clubs, organizations, and faculty members to drive positive change. For example, I’ll partner with the Environmental Action Group to launch a campus-wide sustainability initiative, reducing our carbon footprint and promoting eco- friendly practices.

My presidency will focus on creating a lasting impact that extends beyond my term. I envision a BMCC where every student feels heard, supported, empowered, and connected. By fostering a culture of inclusivity, empathy, and collaboration, we can build a stronger, more resilient community that benefits everyone.

Throughout my academic journey, I’ve learned valuable lessons about leadership, perseverance, and teamwork. As your President, I promise to lead with humility, integrity, transparency, and a commitment to serving our student body.

As a current Enrollment Coach in the Admission and Registrar Office and Secretary, Chief Communications Officer of the Student Government Association, I’ve helped countless students navigate the enrollment process, ensured effective communication, conflict-resolution, and advocated for student interests. These experiences have taught me the importance of active listening, empathy, and effective communication. I’ve seen firsthand how a supportive and inclusive environment can empower students to succeed.

I firmly believe that anyone can be an element of change if they can find their purpose in life. As your President, I aim to create opportunities for students no matter who they are or where they are coming from to discover their passions, develop their skills, and make a positive impact on our community.

If elected, I’ll work tirelessly to improve student life, resources, and communication between students and administration. I’ll advocate for better financial aid guidance, more career development opportunities, and stronger support systems for students facing difficulties all in « SGA in Action » Initiative. Let’s work together to create a BMCC that is truly exceptional – a place where every student can thrive, grow, and succeed.

The future is now. Will you join me in shaping BMCC’s future? Let’s unite to create a more compassionate, supportive, and empowering community. Vote for me, and together, we’ll make BMCC an exceptional place for every student.

Your voice, my pen.

From the bottom of my heart, Stephane Kakou
