Candidate for Senator
Voices of Students
My candidacy for the role of Senator serves as a love letter to all the students who may feel lost, anxious, and uncertain of where to begin. These words don’t come from a place of emptiness — I, too, was once this lost and uncertain student. With ambition from personal struggles and experiences, my campaign revolves around student success and wellbeing. I strive to foster a school environment where all students feel welcome in the large and vibrant community at BMCC.
As a current second-semester freshman, I only recently faced the challenge of adapting to an unfamiliar environment. I found the transitional process to be extremely overwhelming at times, and with thousands of incoming freshmen every year, this isn’t an experience exclusive to myself. One of my main objectives is to provide additional support and guidance to all BMCC students, but especially for those that are in their first-semester here.
One of the biggest factors that assisted me with easing into BMCC’s vast atmosphere was the plethora of clubs available. With such a diverse catalog, I’m inclined to say there’s truly something for everyone, but that would be an extremely broad statement that’s likely false. No matter how many clubs there may be, there will always be room for new and innovative club ideas. I fully intend to streamline and clarify the club chartering process as much as possible, in order to further expand BMCC’s extracurricular offerings, driving up student interest and participation as a result.
As more clubs are formed every year, distributing funds amongst them becomes an increasingly vital topic. Members of the SGA serve as a powerful bridge between school administration and the student body, and I plan to advocate for additional administrative funding. Clubs are such an important factor to a thriving social atmosphere at BMCC, especially as a commuter school, and would benefit immensely from additional funding. As it currently stands, though, I propose a fair distribution based on seniority, impact, and participation, as well as placing a heavy emphasis on communicating with club leaders about their necessities for success.
In summation, I’m determined to construct a student-centric atmosphere within BMCC that focuses on properly representing student interest. Together, as a community, let’s continue to blossom and sow the seeds of growth in BMCC’s ever-changing landscape.
