Candidate for Secretary
United Slate
My name is Michael Horowitz, and I am a Political Science major. I am running for the position of Secretary for the 2025-2026 academic year because I want to continue making a positive impact on the BMCC community.
I am proud and honored to serve as an SGA Senator, and I hope to continue serving on behalf of the student body as your Secretary.
As a senator, I have worked hard to meet the needs of the student body. I created an initiative called BMCC Reads, a writing competition in collaboration with the English Department, offering $1,000 in prize money and extra credit in classes. I am also an active participant in the Academic Senate, where I represent students and advocate on their behalf to an auditorium full of faculty. Additionally, I have met with government officials to push for free MetroCards for all BMCC students. With your support, I plan to achieve this next year.
As Secretary, I want to streamline communication between the student clubs and the SGA. This cohesion will help improve the sense of community at BMCC by collaborating on more events and activities. Also, I will advocate for a larger prayer room that students of all religions will be able to utilize and provide each student with the support and resources they need.
My experience as a senator has taught me how the SGA can work together as a team to be successful. It’s necessary for SGA executives to understand the responsibilities of their roles to be effective leaders. I have learned from the current SGA executives, and their wisdom and guidance have prepared me for this role. Spending countless hours discussing how to be an effective secretary and studying the work of the previous secretary to improve my skills for the job makes me best suited for the position.
In conclusion, I ask for your support in electing me as your Secretary for the 2025-2026 academic year. Together, we can ensure that every student’s voice is heard and that BMCC becomes a place where all students have the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. Thank you for your consideration.
