Voices of Students

Andrea PlazaDear BMCC Students,

Your voice matters. Your experiences matter. Together, we can make BMCC a place where students are not just attending classes but are actively shaping their future. I am proud to stand alongside a diverse community of students who believe in growth, opportunity, and change. I understand the importance of representation, inclusivity, and opportunity. I want to serve as a voice not just for myself but for all of us, because BMCC is a community built on our diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences. My goal is to ensure that every student feels empowered, heard, and supported throughout their journey here enhancing communication between students, faculty, and administration, ensuring every voice is heard and meaningful improvements are made.

Managing the SGA budget fairly and transparently is another crucial aspect of my plan. I want to ensure that funding is distributed equitably, supporting clubs based on their mission plans and longevity at BMCC. Additionally, I will advocate for investing in campus events that embrace all students— regardless of culture, age, or background-to create a more inclusive and connected student body. Expanding opportunities for student-led initiatives, research programs, and workshops will also be a priority, empowering students to explore their passions and share their knowledge.

Beyond funding and engagement, my vision for BMCC is to make it a place where every student receives the support they need—whether it’s mental health resources, mentorship programs, or networking opportunities. I want SGA to play an active role in orientation, guiding new students through campus and introducing them to the many resources and activities available. Transitioning to college can be overwhelming, but by building a welcoming environment, we can help students find their place and thrive.

Diversity is our strength, and inclusivity is our responsibility. I will work to create spaces where every student— regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, immigration status, or background—feels valued and respected. Everyone deserves a second chance, and everyone deserves to be see. Let’s illuminate the path forward—because at BMCC, we don’t just start here; we go anywhere
