Thanksgiving 2023

Happy Thanksgiving

Dear BMCC Community,

Messages urging us to give thanks and feel gratitude rise up this time of year. It’s also that time in the semester when our students are wrapping up their final projects and striving to achieve their best outcome in each class.

Our students come from all five boroughs of New York City, from across the United States and close to a hundred other countries. They have a head start on the global perspective that prepares them to enter STEM, business and other career paths. The community at BMCC is not just a culture of care, as we often say, but a culture of hopefulness and one in which empathy is one of our highest values and something to which we aspire.

We ask a lot of our students; not the least of which is to seek the truth, to take responsibility for their own ambition and dreams, to think critically and bring a more positive and hopeful perspective to their world view.

I respect our faculty and staff who are role models emulating these traits, and I’m grateful for the many diverse voices at our college. It is heartening to see the ways in which we are educating each other on our points of view; through guest speakers, class activities and meaningful conversations with colleagues, family and friends.

I wish you a sense of peace and balance as you continue this vital work. I encourage you to embrace who and what you are grateful for, as Thanksgiving approaches. Thank you for making our community stronger.

In Gratitude,
