BMCC Names Allison Messina Assistant Vice President of Workforce Development and Continuing Education

Dear BMCC Community,

Allison Messina

I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Allison Messina as Assistant Vice President of Workforce Development and Continuing Education at BMCC, where she will serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet, effective today, April 14.

Ms. Messina brings with her 25 years of experience in managing workforce development programs in NYC. Most recently, she served as Vice President of Workforce Development at Project Renewal, where she led multiple initiatives that assisted over 1,000 New Yorkers annually. At Project Renewal, she managed a team that worked exclusively with low-income adults facing significant barriers to employment, including histories of homelessness, substance use, serious mental illness, and justice involvement, helping these clients achieve job placement and retention.

Prior to her tenure at Project Renewal, Ms. Messina spent 14 years at FEGS Health & Human Services, where she held several leadership positions including Assistant Vice President of Employment Initiatives. In this role, she managed a substantial portfolio comprised of federal, state, and city contracts to help individuals enter the workforce throughout New York City and Long Island.

At BMCC, Ms. Messina will provide strategic direction and develop policies to expand existing workforce development programs. She will also develop new programs and services tailored to meet the needs of our diverse college community and urban partners. Among other areas, she will oversee programs that can lift people out of poverty, helping them develop workforce skills while earning stackable credits into our associate degree programs. She will also lead programs that provide paid internships and enable participants to network with industry professionals and continue their higher education.

Ms. Messina holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Women’s Studies from Hunter College and a Master of Public Administration in Executive Studies from the City University of New York, Baruch College School of Public Affairs. She is also a 2021-2022 Coro New York Workforce Systems Leadership Fellow.

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Messina to BMCC as she works to support our mission of student success and community impact.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Anthony E. Munroe
