Middle States Self-Study 2024-2027

Beginning Fall 2024, BMCC commenced its Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Accreditation Self-Study. This transparent self-appraisal process occurs every ten years and ensures institutional accountability, self-appraisal, improvement, and innovation through peer review and the rigorous application of standards within the context of institutional mission.

Dr. Holly Messitt, Associate Professor, English, and Dr. Brenda Vollman, Associate Professor, Criminal Justice, have been named Co-Chairs of this current MSCHE Self-Study from 2024-2027. Together with Professors Messitt and Vollman, the Core Team includes Dr. Liesl Jones, Associate Provost and Interim Provost, and Dr. Musa Elbulok, Assistant Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Planning.

BMCC’s Self-Study is organized around seven Working Groups that will assess BMCC’s compliance with the seven MSCHE Standards that are key to student success and evaluate what is working well and what we need to improve upon as an institution. Each Working Group is led by two Working Group Co-Chairs and one cabinet-level Working Group Liaison. Along with the Core Team, the Working Group Co-Chairs and Liaisons form the 26-member Steering Committee.

This site contains documents relating to the Self-Study, including the current status of the Self-Study process at BMCC (timeline), members of the Steering Committee, all Standards-based Working Group members, and recorded college-wide forums. You may also see a history of BMCC’s recommendations from the previous 2017 Self-Study report.

We look forward to a participatory, transparent and thoughtful Self-Study journey.
