Accreditation

The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). As indicated on the Commission’s website, it “is a voluntary, non-governmental, regional membership association currently serving higher education institutions in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and other geographic areas in which the Commission conducts accrediting activities.

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education assures students and the public of the educational quality of higher education. The Commission’s accreditation process ensures institutional accountability, self-appraisal, improvement, and innovation through peer review and the rigorous application of standards within the context of institutional mission.”

In 2014, BMCC completed and submitted to MSCHE a follow-up monitoring report documenting that the institution has achieved and can sustain compliance with Middle States Standards 2, 3, and 14. This report was accepted by the Commission on March 5, 2015. The College is currently conducting its 10 year self-study. Additional information regarding the current accreditation activities can be found on the College homepage.

Documentation of BMCC’s accreditation status can be found on the MSCHE website.

Additional Program Accreditations

In addition to institutional accreditation, four of the College’s programs maintain program level accreditation from specialized accreditation bodies. Documentation of the program accreditation can be found by searching on the agency directory pages included below.

BMCC Program – Nursing

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) supports the interests of nursing education, nursing practice, and the public by the functions of accreditation. Accreditation is a voluntary, peer-review, self-regulatory process by which non-governmental associations recognize educational institutions or programs that have been found to meet or exceed standards and criteria for educational quality.
