Dr. Small is an ethnographer, producer, and writer. She also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Speech Communication and Business Management Departments at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), teaching courses in The Fundamentals of Business Communication, Interpersonal Communication, The Mass Media, and Public Speaking. Additionally, Dr. Small teaches Introduction to Applied Psychology (Freshman Seminar Course), Human Relations, Justice In the Media, Feminist Thought, and Marriage and Family at Berkeley College (NYC), Speech Dynamics In Small Groups, and Professional Speech Communication at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York.
Dr. Small has worked in broadcast television for over ten years at MSNBC/NBC, Court TV, and KingWorld Productions. She has conducted in-depth research pursuing investigative stories through probing-engaging interviews and has produced a number of mini-documentary series aired on social media, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.
Over the years she has hosted seminars and workshops that empower and equip individuals to navigate through life’s challenging cycles. Dr. Small completed her doctorate in sociology with a focus in Cultural Studies and a minor in Construction of Memory at the New School for Social Research in New York. She completed an Advance Graduate Certificate in Public Policy (Summer 2024).
Moreover, she enjoys volunteering for several community activities throughout New York City, having served as a Judge for the annual Madison Square Boys and Girls Club “Youth of the Year Event” competition, a premier leadership development program that recognizes and advances community service, contribution to family, academic performance, and poise and public speaking ability. She is also active in a number of civic organizations in New York.
