Pianist, educator and arts administrator Judy Woo has a vision to broaden access to the arts. She is an advocate of interdisciplinary studies and partnerships to raise standards of excellence across diverse and complementary fields. Committed to advancing equity to all students of different socio-economical backgrounds, she has proven success in her roles as a recruiter, fundraiser and collaborator. She is a nationally recognized teacher of award-winning piano students.
A native of Vancouver, Canada, Judy Woo has performed in venues including the Banff Centre for the Arts, the Orpheum Theater in Vancouver and at International House New York. As a collaborator she has performed as a member of a piano trio and as a duo with a clarinetist. In performance, she shares unexpected pairings in programming with contemporary composers. A first place winner of the Canadian Music Competitions, her repertoire ranges from Corigliano, Louie and Bach to Schumann, Ligeti and Messiaen.
A recipient of the Johann Strauss Foundation Award, Judy Woo received a full scholarship for study at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, broadening her musical studies to three countries and two continents. As a grantee of the Women in Leadership Award from International House, she was mentored by celebrated violinist Midori, whom inspired her to create access to music for all communities. She was also awarded the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) grant, which lead her to Germany for her doctoral disseration research.
Since 2018, Judy Woo has been Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (CUNY), and has taught at Concordia College Conservatory and The Geneva Conservatory of Music in Manhattan, while maintaining a thriving private studio in New York. She also served as Director of The Geneva Conservatory, where she lead fundraising concerts and doubled the enrollment during her tenure. An in-demand adjudicator and former national examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music, she has given numerous workshops in the Tri-State area and has presented at the World Piano Pedagogy Conference. She was also the former President of the Piano Teachers Congress in NYC, where she increased membership and revitalized existing programs through working collaboratively with her colleagues.
Judy Woo holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from The Graduate Center, City University of New York, a Master of Music from the Manhattan School of Music, and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Victoria. In addition, she holds Associateship degrees in Performance and Pedagogy from the Victoria Conservatory of Music and an Associateship in Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music.

Courses Taught
- An introductory course in which musical elements, structures, and styles are studied through listening. Listening skills will be emphasized through consideration of diverse musical works. A wide variety of types and forms of music will be explored.
- Designed for study of the piano as secondary instrument, the course includes acquaintance with the keyboard, scales, chords, sight reading, transposition and elementary piano repertoire.

Pre-Requisite: MUS105 and MUS140 or DEPT. PERMIT - This course introduces students to music notation and the elements of music, such as scales, keys, intervals, rhythms, and chords - commonly used across many genres of music. Students will practice notating music, basic aural and keyboard skills as a preparation for further studies in music.
