Annette Apitz wrote, directed and was a producer of the feature film FIGHTING FISH, which premiered at the 2010 Nashville Film Festival, won Best Feature at the LA Femme Film Festival and won Best Actress at NY Visionfest. The script was a Top 25 Finalist for the Sundance Feature Film Lab, a Chesterfield Paramount Finalist, and was optioned by Jean Doumanian Productions. The film streamed on Amazon and Hulu among others.
Her award-winning short films have screened at Tribeca, Hamptons, Florida, Austin, BBC and Palm Springs as well as at MoMA, the Baltimore Museum of Art and on PBS, HBO Latin America and WB. Her screenplay adaptation of the novel “The Homemaker” was a Vermonter Fellowship finalist at the 2018 Stowe Story Lab.
Annette works as a writer and producer for documentaries and image films. She has an M.F.A. in Film from Columbia University and a B.A. from McGill University.

Courses Taught
- This course focuses on writing treatments and scripts for the screen and video. Students learn the basics of visualizing narratives in 3-act structure; how to identify fiction and non-fiction genres; how to create character and story; how to research and write treatments and outlines; how to write single-column screenplays for narratives and two-column scripts for documentary scripts; and how to give and receive critiques on script work. Throughout, students will develop the basic skills necessary to write and revise scripts for upper-level VAT production classes and beyond.
