To my dear BMCC community,
It is my pleasure to write this letter to you all, my name is Juan Puerta, I am from Colombia, and I am a business administration student at BMCC; first of all, as an immigrant I have experienced myself the tremendous challenges that come along the way when it comes to settling into this great country and to be able to move forward in it as an independent young adult, fortunately, I have been blessed through this journey by being surrounded with the right connections, which have helped me maintain a great quality of life and personal development, as a result ,I have been able to focus on my goals that will eventually bring a lot of value to me and to America, and now, as a candidate for the senator role, it is of my greatest desire to serve and give back to the community, to be that person who is here to give you hope and be as helpful as possible for those who feel that they are alone,
unheard or ignored, I will advocate for you at the most of my ability and I will always be persistent to keep our community a welcoming space for everybody regardless of your race, identity, sexual orientation, etc. Together we can go a long way, and union is our biggest strength. This is why I have the following ideas that will aim to help as many members of our community as possible.
- I would connect with employees of nonprofit organizations, and I would invite them to come to our campus for informative sessions. This way, many of our members would find out about some areas of support that they might be in need of, and that would increase their quality of life when it comes to health care, housing, food, mental health,
- I would aim to get local businesses that have not partnered with our school yet to be involved in our campus through workshops and community events.
- I would invite to our campus personal connections in sports management and the financial industry in order to provide informative sessions regarding financial literacy, tips that can help you to get into the sports industry at the professional level, detailed strategies to create your own business, This way students can find the right people that can guide them to accomplish their goals and dreams, as well as discover their hidden potential so we all can thrive in that thing that makes us passionate about.
I am looking forward to making a significant impact for our community and being someone of trust and usefulness for you all.
