Candidate for Secretary
Voices of Students
Hello fellow BMCC students,
My name is Gabriela Zavulan and I am a studio art major at BMCC. As someone who wants to be accepted and welcomed in any environment, moving around in the past came with many struggles, such as language barriers, communication issues, and dealing with trying to make friends or finding a group to hang out with. I’ve been here for about 3 semesters and ever since my freshman year, I was interested in joining clubs and making connections, which is something that I didn’t get a chance to do since I moved around so much as a kid. I was first introduced to the Business and Entrepreneurship Club and am currently the secretary. I was also the treasurer of the Marketing Club, and through that, I learned how to build connections, improve my communication skills, and handle workloads. Furthermore, during my time as an officer last semester, I was able to push through and be able to be part of the team that helped create the yacht party, which was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for all students who attended.
Helping and volunteering for such an event helped me realize how much of a change I can put out there as someone who aspires to lend a hand. As a secretary in the SGA, I will listen to the student body and their struggles in their current time at BMCC, creating an environment where students can meet, communicate, and easily make friends. I have noticed that through the upcoming of many people who earned the opportunity to go to a community college, they deserve to have a full-on experience of what college is, so I want to increase communication beyond students and bring more awareness to being part of the activities led by departments here in BMCC, where it is a great opportunity to make connections.
For this reason, I’d love to continue doing what I do best and work in a team to make a change in an environment that accepts every student.
