Dear BMCC Community,
Today, on National Voter Registration Day, I’d like to take this opportunity to encourage you all to register to vote, if you haven’t already, before the upcoming voter registration deadline on October 9th.
Exercising our right to vote is one of our most basic responsibilities in a democracy. It gives us the opportunity to choose who represents us in government and to have our voices heard in local, state, and national decision-making. If you are a citizen of the United States, and will be at least 18 years of age before the upcoming election, you are eligible to vote. Register to Vote Now!
We face many challenges as a city, state, and nation in the coming years—recovering from the pandemic, rebuilding our economy, confronting injustice and systemic racism, fighting climate change, and making sure BMCC and CUNY receive robust public funding—to name just a few.
You can have an impact on these issues when you participate in the political process.
To help foster civic engagement on campus, BMCC recently launched the BMCC Votes website where you can:
• Download a Voter Registration form
• Request an Absentee Ballot so you can Vote by Mail if you will not be able to go to the polls on Election Day (if you are registering for the very first time you can request an absentee ballot directly through the voter registration form above).
• Sign up to serve as a Poll Worker and make some extra cash while you help ensure a smooth election process.
While our country, at times, feels deeply divided, and the challenges we face in the days ahead can seem daunting, sitting on the sidelines is not an option. A healthy democracy—and a more just and equitable society—require an active and engaged populace, and that starts with each of us. Please join me in helping create a better future.
