As the Spring semester continues, we move forward with our efforts to enhance academic and programmatic services for our students. With this in mind, I would like to welcome David P. Barnet, PhD, as our new Acting Dean of Academic Affairs, effective May 17.
Prior to joining BMCC, Barnet served as the Associate Vice President for Curriculum and Program Development at Monroe Community College, SUNY. In his role, Barnet provided collaborative, team-based leadership by addressing issues regarding curriculum, assessment, and accreditation through regular meetings with the Provost and Vice President, Academic Services, and other individuals and groups within the institution, including deans and chairs. Barnet was also instrumental in providing guidance to departments and other divisional units concerning program evaluation and compliance with requirements of SUNY, NYSED, Middle States and other accreditation or regulatory bodies.
Prior to working at Monroe Community College, he served as Teaching Professor and Director of the Liberal Arts Division at the University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute. He also served as Director of Academic Planning and Director of Educational Partnerships at John Jay College of Criminal Justice/CUNY, Consultant to New Community College Initiative (NCCI); and as Director of Academic Programs in the School of Liberal Studies and Continuing Education (LSCE) of SUNY Purchase College.
Barnet holds a PhD in Political Science from Johns Hopkins University. He earned an M.A. in Political Science from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. in Political Science from Reed College.
