Dear Students,
Congratulations on starting your Fall 2022 semester at BMCC. I was honored to meet some of you as you entered campus for the first day of classes. It’s inspiring to talk with you and learn of your plans for the academic year. I also sense the excitement as you consider the many possibilities before you.
It still feels like summer, but soon enough, you will be preparing for October mid-terms, processing what you’ve learned and making decisions about your next semester. As you find your bearings on campus, I want to encourage you to take advantage of every benefit BMCC has to offer, from free tutoring to compassionate support for food insecurity. You’ll also have options such as taking part in an internship, a faculty-led research project or community service activity. BMCC has discipline-related clubs where you’ll find peers who share your passion for a certain field or career goal, and you’ll discover that many in the BMCC community are engaged in activism to speak out against injustice and create a more equitable New York City.
I want to also encourage you to explore the many academic options available to you at BMCC, including more than 55 academic degree programs. During the school year, the college will host career fairs where you can meet one-on-one with employers. We also offer, through our continuing education division at 25 Broadway, credential programs in healthcare, information technology, paralegal studies, even a new program of credentialed training to start a career in the rapidly expanding cannabis industry.
Behind the scenes and at the front desks across campus, our talented staff and administrators are ready to assist you with questions you might have regarding enrollment, financial aid or academic advisement. You’ll find someone to talk to if you have a pressing immigration matter, or want to consult with an experienced counselor. We’re on your side, and we have experienced staff on hand to clear any barriers that are in the way of your success.
It is my honor to be your college president. I look forward to learning of the many ways our students will excel this school year. “Start here, go anywhere” isn’t just a motto. BMCC is a national leader as a community college, and that’s because our students are among the brightest and most ambitious in the country. Enjoy your semester, and congratulations on taking this important step.
