ZSU ZSA KORMENDY RECEIVES MEDAL OF EXCELLENCE AT BOROUGH OF MANHATTAN COMMUNITY COLLEGE HONORS CONVOCATION May 20, 2002

Long Island City resident Zsu Zsa Kormendy will receive the Medal of Excellence for Academic Achievement at the Borough of Manhattan Community College honors convocation on May 28. A human services major, Kormendy is graduating on May 31 with a 3.97 grade point average.

Born and raised in Hungary, Kormendy moved to New York 15 years ago. Since that time, she has worked with several families as a housekeeper and nanny. Her work with children triggered a passionate interest in her. Consequently, Kormendy decided to seek an education that would allow her to work in a professional field doing something she truly enjoyed and found fun.

In January 2000, Kormendy enrolled in BMCC and completed her degree in Human Services while working full-time as a nanny. At BMCC she also was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Human Services Club. She finds time to do volunteer work for New York Cares, helping in soup kitchens, and working with children with disabilities. In addition, she has volunteered with the Lower Eastside Coalition, helping people who were affected by 9/11 regarding health issues.

She is now enrolled at Adelphi University on Long Island, where she is pursuing a B.S. in Social Welfare. After she receives her bachelor’s degree, she intends to continue her studies toward a master’s degree.
