Thirty-six Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) professors from more than a dozen disciplines have received a total of $160,939 in Professional Staff Congress, The City University of New York (PSC-CUNY) Research Awards.
The grants will enable faculty to further their research projects during PSC-CUNY Cycle 47, which extends July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017.
Richard Markgraf, a Program Administrator with PSC-CUNY Grants & Contracts, has led submission Q&A sessions at BMCC to discuss the grants process. “The faculty were inquisitive and asked good questions,” said Markgraf. He explains that there are three tiers of awards, distinguished by the amount awarded. Traditional-A Awards provide up to $3,500, while Traditional-B Awards range from $3,600 to $6,000, and Enhanced Awards are $6,500 to $12,000.
According to the PSC-CUNY Award Program guidelines, applications are judged on criteria including the likelihood that the project will make an original contribution to its field or attain national or international recognition.
“The depth and breadth of scholarship represented by these awards is impressive, as is the collective impact on a broad range of fields,” said Karrin E. Wilks, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. “We are proud of the outstanding research and creative activity of our faculty, providing unprecedented learning opportunities for our students and establishing BMCC as a premier community college.”
Faculty interested in applying for PSC-CUNY grants for Cycle 48 can apply the first week of September, through December 15, 2016.
