BMCC’s Women Panthers defeated the Kingsborough Community College Wave 42-33 in the first game of the semifinal round of the 2010 CUNY Athletic Conference.
Eyandra Molina led the Panthers (11-8) with 21 points, shooting 6-for-18 from the floor and 6-of-9 from the free throw line, adding nine rebounds. Latoya Lee added ten points and dished out eight assists, while Keisha Bjorntzen scored nine points and hauled in 13 rebounds.
Maycaroly Oyangoren led the Wave (1-12) with 15 points and 19 rebounds in the losing effort. Her 18 defensive rebounds broke the CUNYAC Community College record championship record of 16, set by Erica Simon of Hostos in 2008. Kingsborough shot just 12-of-55 from the floor, despite taking an early 3-0 lead and trailing by just five points at halftime.
Top-seeded BMCC now heads to the 13th Annual CUNY Athletic Conference / Con Edison Community College Women’s Basketball Championships tomorrow at 5:30pm. They await the winner of tonight’s second semifinal contest between the second-seeded Queensborough Tigers and the third-seeded Hostos Caimans. Friday’s championship game can be viewed live via web video stream, and will be taped for broadcast on CUNY-TV on Sunday, February 21st.
