Jazzing Up the Library

September 27, 2006

New York, NY. — The Borough of Manhattan Community College’s library and Tribeca Performing Arts Center are one of 50 collaborative groups from around the country awarded with a grant from three organizations: the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Library Association, and National Video Resources, a New York based organization.

As one of the partnering groups to receive the award, BMCC will be receiving six documentary films about the history of jazz. They will become a part of the library’s permanent collection, in addition to scholarly essays and other supplemental resources related to the films.

There will also be screenings of the jazz films at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center, located within BMCC, throughout the fall, starting in late October. The screenings will follow a short introductory talk by noted jazz and film historian Krin Gabbard. The films will then be followed with a question-and-answer session.

On October 11, Jazz at Lincoln Center, also affiliated with the project, will be hosting a kickoff event featuring rare film clips and talks by jazz historians and performers.
