Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) hosted the 2024 Honors Convocation on May 28 in Theatre 2 at 199 Chambers Street. The event recognizes outstanding student achievement both in and outside of the classroom across numerous disciplines.
During his welcoming remarks, BMCC President, Dr. Anthony E. Munroe told the student’s being recognized that “words cannot express the immense pride the faculty, staff and the entire BMCC community feels.”
“As you stand on the cusp of a new chapter in your lives, remember the values that have brought you to this moment, embrace the opportunities that await you, use your knowledge to make a positive impact on the world and never lose sight of the passion that fueled your journey to this moment,” said Dr. Munroe.
Dr. Marva Craig, Vice President for Student Affairs said the Honors Convocation pays tribute to a select group of outstanding students who have demonstrated remarkable achievements.
“Just as the Oscars’ recognize the best in the movie industry, the Grammys celebrate the best in music and in New York, the Tony’s recognize excellence on Broadway,” said Dr. Craig. “Here at BMCC, we have the equivalent, the Honor’s Convocation.”
Dr. Erwin Wong, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs told the students being recognized that BMCC was just the beginning and that the College community is confident they will be successful in the future.
“You are going to make us very proud,” said Dr. Wong.
The event also featured a special performance by the BMCC Choral Program, led by Music Program Professor and Chairperson Eugenia Yau with Jee Eun Ahn on piano.
