Foundation Gala Set for May 2

BMCC alumnus Philip Barry, ’72, Vice President for Global Workplace Initiatives at Colgate Palmolive, and Charles Maikish, Executive Director of Lower Manhattan Construction Command Center, will be honored at the eighteenth annual BMCC Foundation Gala. The Gala will take place on May 2 at Chelsea Piers’ Pier Sixty, beginning at 6 p.m.

The Gala is chaired by former BMCC Foundation Board members Noreen Culhane, Executive Vice President of the New York Stock Exchange, and Tim Tynan, Managing Director of Citigroup, as well as Timur Galen, Managing Director of Global Real Estate Strategies at Goldman, Sachs & Co. It will feature a silent auction that will include sports memorabilia autographed by some of today’s most illustrious personalities. Last year’s Gala raised over $900,000. Proceeds from the Gala will benefit the Borough of Manhattan Community College’s Scholarship Fund.

Philip Barry oversees Colgate Palmolive’s efforts in creating a global inclusive workplace environment. In postings throughout the world, Barry’s leadership role in human resources and employee relations has made the company an international employer of choice. Prior to Colgate Palmolive, Philips held positions at Procter and Gamble, Digital Equipment Corporation, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and the Urban League.

Charles Maikish was appointed by Governor George Pataki and Mayor Michael Bloomberg last February to head the Lower Manhattan Command Center, which provides oversight and coordination of all private and public construction projects in Lower Manhattan. The Executive Vice President of Global Real Estate Business Services for J.P. Morgan Chase, Maikish was previously the director of the World Trade Department of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He also spearheaded the reconstruction for of the World Trade Center after the 1993 terrorist bombings.
