Fiterman Hall (located at 30 W. Broadway) was donated to BMCC in 1993 by Miles and Shirley Fiterman. On September 11, 2001, just when the renovation of the building was nearly complete, 7 World Trade Center collapsed into its south side and caused its destruction. This past summer, officials from The City University of New York and the College met with community organizations to discuss its reconstruction.
Speaking in May before a joint hearing of the New York City Council Finance and Higher Education Committees, CUNY Senior Vice Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer Allan H. Dobrin stated that while all the financing is not yet in place it is anticipated that work on the building will begin in fall 2006.
The new building, to be designed by the renowned architectural firm, Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, is expected to be completed in 2010.
