Early Childhood Center Executive Director Cecilia Scott-Croff Elected NYAEYC Governing Board President

Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) Early Childhood Center Executive Director Dr. Cecilia Scott-Croff has been elected Governing Board President of the New York Association for the Education of Young Children (NYAEYC).  Founded in 1926, Dr. Scott-Croff is the first African American president in the history of the organization.

Cecilia Scott-CroffNYAEYC’s mission is to promote excellence in early care and education for New York State children and families through education, advocacy and the support of the profession.

“At a time when our city, our workforce and the profession of early care and education is working to provide more diverse, equitable and response practices and experiences, I am humbled by this honor,” said Dr. Scott-Croff.  “I will use this platform to further uplift the work BMCC is engaged in to support student parents, their children, the workforce and early childhood.”

Dr. Scott-Croff has been working with children and families for more than 25 years.  She has worked as a classroom teacher, multi-site director, college instructor and campus childcare leader.  She has worked with the Special Education Itinerate Teacher Supervisor, the foster care system as well as criminal justice involved individuals.  She is also an advocate for children with neurodiverse needs.

Her work has been published in the National Association for Special Education Teacher magazine, the Journal of the American Academy of Special Education Professionals, Child Care Exchange and the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

NYAEYC also recognized student leader and BMCC alumna Jessica Jimenez for her dedication the childhood education field.  Jimenez, who has worked with children for more than 10 years, is currently enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program at City College (CUNY).   Jimenez currently serves as a Supplemental Instructor for two Early Childhood Education courses at BMCC.
