BMCC Welcomes Controller and Director of Related Entities, Adriana Lau

Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) welcomes Adriana Lau as Controller and Director of Related Entities in the Office of Administration and Planning.

Lau comes to BMCC with extensive accounting and financial experience in higher education, government and the private sector.

Most recently, she served as Associate Director of Financial Reporting in the Office of the University Controller, CUNY.

In that role, she produced financial statements and managed variance analyses for more than 100 business units at colleges, foundations and associations across CUNY. She also worked with independent auditors, managers and New York State and City agencies to develop CUNY staff trainings on accounting and financial reporting policies.

Lau’s accomplishments at CUNY also include having improved processes in completing Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) reports. She assisted in Middle State filings across CUNY and oversaw financial statements at 25 CUNY colleges.

Preceding her tenure at CUNY, Lau was senior accountant at Thomson Reuters, New York City. In that role, she analyzed and consolidated activities of financial and risk business, headed financial reporting and supported auditors in Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings.

Lau’s wide range of experience also includes having served as senior accountant at Empire State Development; as financial product controller at Deutsche Bank, and as a financial analyst, SEC accountant and capital budget controller at Verizon Communications.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Management Information Systems at SUNY Albany, Lau completed her Master of Business Administration in Finance at Pace University.
